Associations of dietary, body mass index, lifestyle and sociodemographic factors with iron deficiency anemia.

Introduction:: Anemia is one of the important public health problems plaguing world today. Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) constitutes majority this population. This study aims to explore relationship IDA and socio-demographic, lifestyle, dietary, physical activity, different body size phenotypes in adult Turkish populationMethods: The case-control was carried out between August October 2019 at internal medicine outpatient clinic tertiary hospital. A total 101 anemic 111 age gender matched non-anemic healthy controls were included. Iron-deficiency defined as presence both inflammation-adjusted ferritin concentration less than 15 ng/ml. Sociodemographic, lifestyle nutritional characteristics participants questioned with a questionnaire form. activity level evaluated International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ).Results: Non-anemic (90 female, 21 male) 11 included study. Unemployment (p=0.02), tea consumption (p=0.001), chronic disease (p=0.036), (p<0.001) dietary diversity significantly associated anaemia. Body mass index higher (p=0.025). Employment (OR: 2.81, 95% CI: 1.024–7.721, p=0.045), (minimum) 0.14, 0.053–0.364, p < 0.001), (active) 0.30, 0.097–0.926, p= 0.036), time 4.42, 1.767–11.059, vegetables portion 0.61, 0.433–0.869, 0.006), dairy products 0.54, 0.334–0.886, 0.015) independently IDA.Conclusions: Diet diversity, BMI, disease, unemployment, have been found be factors anemia. Food fortification education can contribute improving iron status reducing prevalence risk population.Keywords: Iron-Deficiency Anemia; index; lifestyle; diet;
